The Bombardier Challenger 800 is the largest super-midsize business aircraft offered by Bombardier Aerospace. It is based on Bombardier’s 50-seat CRJ200LR. The Challenger 850 is the updated, current version. The Challenger 850 is derived from the Bombardier CRJ200 airliner. It is capable of accommodating 15–19 passengers. The Challenger 850 jet has a transcontinental range and a high-speed cruise of Mach 0.80.
The RJ was designed with a stretched by 19 feet in length and augmenting the wingspan by 6 feet as compared to the Challenger series.
Better landing gear and steel brakes were added and other additions include: an all-glass cockpit, GE CF34-3B1 turbofans, making it more powerful and fuel efficient than the -3A1 engines found on the RJ.
The additional weight of the fuel, which is 4,000 lbs, increases the take-off weight as well as the range. The dimensions of the 850 are the same as the RJ, but the 850’s cabin is usually configured to seat no more than 12 passengers in a more spacious executive arrangement.
