Augusta Westland – AW109

The AW109 helicopter can fly from critically situated landing spots in adverse climates, it provides great performance, speed, payload and operational flexibility. It is a top-of-the-range light twin-engine multi-role helicopter, with a global positioning navigation system, weather radar and the customer’s choice of frequency-modulated secure communications.

The AW109 is capable to perform in challenging conditions associated with Emergency Medical Services and Search and Rescue missions over land and water. The AW109 was originally developed as an ambulance and rescue helicopter to operate in mountainous regions to provide safety, performance and effectiveness requirements to carry out the toughest missions.

The helicopter is equipped with an ergonomically designed glass cockpit with provision for mission dedicated displays, control instrumentation, reduced pilot workload, and increased situational awareness via a Synthetic Vision System (SVS) and Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS). It can also perform in the most severe conditions, in hot and warm environment.

To prevents crash, the helicopter airframe consists of a lightweight aluminum alloy and honeycomb structure. The unobstructed cabin space allows complete access to the patient and can be configured in a wide range of layouts including single or dual stretchers with up to four seats for medical attendants or up to six seats for Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC). The spacious interior can accommodate an extensive range of emergency medical equipment.
